The 8 permissions Kidelon needs on the child's phone
What each one is for, and how your child's privacy stays protected.
1
Accessibility Service
- Why
- To watch the foreground app and show the lock overlay. We do NOT capture keystrokes.
- Privacy
- No keystrokes, message content, or screenshots are recorded.
- If revoked
- If the child revokes this permission, parents get an immediate alert.
2
Device Admin
- Why
- To enforce the strict system lock and prevent uninstall by the child.
- Privacy
- It does not factory-reset the phone or touch your files.
- If revoked
- Any attempt to revoke triggers a parent-app alert.
3
Usage Stats
- Why
- To measure how much time the child spends in each app.
- Privacy
- Only app name + duration. No content (messages, video, game) is seen.
- If revoked
- Without it, screen-time tracking cannot work.
4
Background Location
- Why
- For geofence (safe-zone) entry/exit notifications.
- Privacy
- Not constant tracking — only zones you defined.
- If revoked
- Without it, "left home" alerts stop.
5
Battery Optimization Disable
- Why
- To run in the background and enforce lock + filter.
- Privacy
- Limited battery impact — Kidelon averages ~2% per 4 hours.
- If revoked
- With optimization on, Android may kill the background service.
6
Auto-start (HyperOS / Samsung)
- Why
- So Kidelon auto-runs after a device reboot.
- Privacy
- Only Kidelon itself starts — no other app is triggered.
- If revoked
- If off, Kidelon stays down after a reboot — supervision gap.
7
Notification Access
- Why
- To sync lock state + receive parent commands.
- Privacy
- Notification content is NOT forwarded. Only Kidelon commands are read.
- If revoked
- Required for real-time lock; offline mode has delay.
8
Overlay (Display over other apps)
- Why
- To draw the lock screen above ALL other apps.
- Privacy
- Only the Kidelon lock UI; no other content is overlaid.
- If revoked
- Without it, "soft lock" is disabled; strict lock still works.
HyperOS (Xiaomi) & One UI (Samsung) extra steps
These devices add manufacturer settings on top of the standard 8 Android permissions: Auto-start, MIUI optimization, Battery saver whitelisting, etc. A brand-specific illustrated guide will be added to this page soon.
